A woman puts her career on hold to be a housewife, but soon her home life takes a surreal turn. It was originally intended to be released streaming on Hulu, but a strong reception from test screenings prompted Searchlight Pictures to give it a wide theatrical release instead.. Nightbitch is a 2024 supernatural comedy starring Amy Adams as a mother (yes, that’s a name), a mother who struggles with all the little problems of parenthood until she finds herself slowly turning into a dog at night. Hence the film’s title. The movie itself isn’t what you expect, I mean you might think it would be a body comedy but no it’s actually more about parenting and the dog thing is a nice cover song so think of it like Big Daddy (1999) but it’s also mom and dogs. But I really think Mom is a fun and enjoyable person to watch in all her weird and reckless behavior, and her views on parenting can be divisive, but that’s what makes her such a great character here. I think Dad (Scoot McNairy) was definitely the one that stood out to me though. Every scene in the movie he was in was either hilarious or just plain dark, and he never really did anything unpleasant or evil, he was just doing what a father does best, and that’s (trying to) raise his child. I think the movie is definitely for parents and that kind of life in general because I’m not a parent myself and I think if you look at it from that perspective I think you’d get a lot more enjoyment than you ever would. .But I’m not really saying it’s bad, in fact it still has some standout scenes that I won’t discuss here because it’s something that has to be seen to be believed. And on a side note, the transformation sequences might be a little gross to some, but I thought they added a lot to the way most mothers were thinking in that situation, and I really liked the way some of the scenes were played out, even as they stood. annoying factor. All in all a great movie will definitely see it when it comes to all you parents out there and sure it might have some weird moments but I guess it fits the surreal way of raising a kid so it’s fine in that sense. We highly recommend it to anyone who just wants to escape and be free like a wild dog in general, but don’t expect R-rated super friends. Rating: ALondon Film Festival October 16.
