Thelma: I didn’t expect to be this old
Tale
When 93-year-old Thelma Post is tricked by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, she embarks on a perilous quest across town to reclaim what was taken from her. Thelma’s apartment in the movie is the actual apartment of the real Thelma, who is still alive at the age of 103. At the end of the film, a clip is played of the real Thelma looking up at the trees and exclaiming, “What a spirit!”, much like her film counterparts.

This movie needed an action star to live up to it, and it got one in Shaft
She also had a decent villain in Malcom McDowell, which lives up to my image of her. I think it has the perfect premise of “They stole his money, now he has to get it back!” It’s funny, because the cast was old as dirt, it created a lot of things, they did a lot more stressful: climb stairs, ride a moped, fall. I think you have to be of the right age to sense danger and be able to laugh at it.
If I were 30 or 40 years older, I’d probably think this was a horror movie
Yes, it was a nice movie about what grandma means to everyone when they are old enough to care for her more than usual. Kinda grim when you get to the age where you’re a burden on the family. Also a touching love letter to a film director who clearly loved his grandmother.
The emotional journey was intense, although most cast members can’t move that fast, but it definitely makes you want to call your grandma when it’s over
