While searching the depths of an abandoned space station, a group of young space colonists encounter the most terrifying life form in the universe. “Alien: Romulus” stars Kaylee Spaeny and Isabel Merced reveal why director Fed Alvarez used practical effects and animatronic xenomorphs to scare his cast. Physical sets, practical creatures and miniatures were used whenever possible to help ground the later visual effects work. When Rain turns off the ship’s gravity and shoots all the aliens, all of their blood hangs in the air in long, splatter-like patterns.
The logo itself suffers static and turns green
. Real-life zero gravity causes liquids to form spherical shapes instead of breaking into long, flat chunks like in the movie. Andy: The solution for a claustrophobic astronaut is to give him more space. The 20th Century Studios fanfare freezes and becomes menacing, as in Alien 3 (1992), which precedes the film’s opening scene.

there are several nods or easter eggs to various films in the franchise using subtle elements, characters, or plots)… It’s certainly a product of our modern era (filming, effects), while still maintaining most of the atmosphere and tone of the classic Alien films… The overall visual language is quite remarkable, with some really striking shots here and there (great framing and composition)… Yes, this might disappoint some who have a sense of belonging to the franchise, as it certainly expands and explores science quite a bit (which is what I personally look for in sci-fi sagas that span decades)…
well, with quiet power, subtlety and intensity
So if you’re looking for an alien movie that uses most of the old ingredients while introducing and/or reinventing and further exploring what we’re used to… Then you’re in for a great time! Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping a dystopia or making the world a better place, these women are sci-fi.
